VoIP Case Study: Web://Xtra
Web://Xtra is a fast growing internet services and solutions company with thousands of customers. Incorporated since 2005, Web://Xtra has become a synonym for service and quality and "more for less". Web://Xtra has been selected as one of the top 25 ISP's in the Netherlands.
The Challenge
When the need for a professional telephone system arose, Web://Xtra started looking around at the various free and open source Voice over IP solutions available on the market at the time. With their in-house technical know-how, Web://Xtra could easily manage the installation and configuration of any open source solution such as Trixbox.
However, the engineers at Web://Xtra soon found out that the management interfaces of other open source solutions such as Trixbox were often cumbersome. Their time would be better spent working on their core business, than figuring out the peculiarities of another open source PBX system.
The Solution
That's when the engineers found out about Sipat's fully functional free software license. After evaluating it for some time they found out that the ease of use and support far surpassed the other solutions that they had been evaluating. Web://Xtra promptly ordered a commercial license online and installed the software on a Supermicro server.
The company opted for Linksys SPA-942 phones, which are automatically configured by Sipcat, in combination with Plantronics headsets. For moving around the office, Siemens C450 IP/DECT phones were chosen which offer great range while remaining fully IP based. Web://Xtra set up four IP trunks to different carriers providing different lines for customers, suppliers, outbound and international traffic.
The Response
Web://Xtra performed the entire installation on their own, with minor help from Linugen's online helpdesk. The system was set up with an IVR to direct callers to Sales, Support or Administration and when the company is closed, customers are offered the possiblity to leave a message which is forwarded through e-mail to the person responsible.
Additionally Web://Xtra have implemented call recording to register contract negotiations over the phone for future reference. "Other similar solutions have proven much more cumbersome." says Jeroen Klaver "We are very pleased with the ease of installation, configuration and daily usage."
