Antwerp, 5 June 2007 –
Linugen today released the newest version of its much appraised Sipcat VoIP PBX telephony platform. Since the first release ten months ago, Sipcat software has been installed on over two thousand systems worldwide. This latest release incorporates much of the customer feedback received since the first release and introduces a number of new features.
Multi – Language
Sipcat is used in many countries around the globe, where people do not necessarily speak English. Because ease of use has always been a key benefit of Sipcat and to allow these people a much more natural interaction with the software, it has now been translated in three additional languages. This release includes, besides English, French, German and Dutch translations. Not only the web interface has been translated, but the systems sound files as well. Additional languages will be introduced over time.
Video support
The new release marks the introduction of video support on the Sipcat platform. Sipcat supports video using the popular high quality H.264 and H.263 codecs to provide broad compatibility for IP phones and software phones. Video support requires no extra configuration and is included at no extra charge.
New IP phones
Sipcat already has the broadest automatic provisioning support for IP phones in the industry. This release introduces auto-configuration support for all Polycom IP phones. New models of already supported phones from brands such as Cisco, Grandstream, Linksys, Snom and Thomson are included as well.
Updates
Existing customers will notice the overall speed increase that has been realized in this version. While Sipcat was initially restricted to 100 user systems (max 400 phones), this restriction has been lifted and installs of up to 250 users (max. 1000 phones) are now supported out of the box. Larger installs are available on demand. To cater for these larger installs, the possibility of batch configuration – and activation at a later moment – has also been included.
Several software updates to the Linux operating system and underlying Asterisk VoIP core have made the software even more reliable and allows support for a broader range of telephony cards.
Availability
This new release is available immediately from the Sipcat website. Updates for existing Sipcat 1.1 users will be made available shortly. To mark this release, Linugen launches a new Sipcat blog with plenty of industry news and tips at
