First of all, happy birthday to us. This blog is now one year old. We hope to be able to continue to bring you the same exciting business VoIP news in the coming years. This post is a bit of a technical one, but it’s nevertheless quite important.
Asterisk, the driving force behind our very Sipcat, has been selected by InfoWorld as the best IP PBX in 2008. The InfoWorld Test Center tests, reviews and identifies the best and most innovative IT products every year. This award represents a major achievement for Open Source in general and Digium and Mark Spencer in particular
Fellow blogger Andy Abramson has been covering SightSpeed a lot lately. SightSpeed offers a software based approach to video conferencing, much like Skype does for voice calling. The big difference is, that Skype is active in a consumer market, while SightSpeed mainly serves the business market. Seeing that most companies still prefer fixed handsets on their desks, they apparently aren’t so picky when it comes to video.
So Skype recently introduced their Small Business Pack and I can’t help but wondering if anyone’s really waiting for that. Even though I am not a big fan of Skype, I’ll be the first to admit that Skype is great in the residential end-user space. People who want to call at significantly lower price (or even for free) greatly benefit from products such as Skype.
