Skype worm in the wild

Sipcat VoIP Blog - SkypeBad news for Skype once more, as a new worm released recently targets Skype users on the Windows platform. The worm that disguises itself as a message from someone on your contact lists, will try to coax you into downloading a .jpg file which actually contains the worm. “The chat message, of which there are several versions, is cleverly written and may appear to be a legitimate chat message, which may fool some users into clicking on the link,” said Skype spokesman Villu Arak.

VoIP hacker sentenced to two years

Sipcat VoIP Blog - Robert MooreRobert Moore, the 23-year old mastermind behind a duo of VoIP hackers that stole over 10 million of call minutes from at least 15 different internet telephony service providers has been sentenced to two years in a federal prison and a $150 000 fine. His partner in crime, 25-year old Edwin Pena who sold the stolen minutes to other carriers, jumped bail and has supposedly fled the country.

VoIP security video

I was going to keep this juicy nugget until friday, but since I forgot posting yesterday. You’re getting some extra VoIP goodness today. Generally I tend to avoid a lot of FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt) spreading articles about VoIP security, because they generally do just that. Yes, moving your voice communication to a data network requires planning and it may even increase the security risk. However, a lot of those problems can easily be avoided by some basic security measures.
