The ability of properly locating customers calling emergency services, or lack thereof, has prevented voip providers from implementing this service. EU policy makers now seek to regulate this situation by mandating emergency services access for voip providers.

Cisco feeling Microsoft heat

Sipcat VoIP Blog - MicrosoftWith Microsoft’s recent entry in the unified communications space, Cisco is admitting their VAR’s are feeling the pressure. Customers are unsure about Microsoft’s new product lines and managers are urging their staff to at least look at Microsoft’s offering. Cisco’s has updated it sales material and says that, until now, Microsoft’s entry in the market has just lengthened sales cycles for a couple of days.

BT and FON team up

Sipcat VoIP Blog - BT | FONBT does it again and they’re well on their way now to win our “Smartest Incumbent Operator” award, assuming there is such at thing at all. They earned our respect a while ago, by releasing a non-biased VoIP guide for businesses. Now they announced a partnership with guerilla WiFi network provider Fon.

Asterisk going mainstream?

Sipcat VoIP Blog - 3comI was a little late on blogging Digium’s Switchvox acquisition, but there isn’t much to tell about either. It’s a move that was (over)due, seeing that Digium’s main revenue comes from selling PCI cards and maybe the Asterisk business edition. Other vendors such as Fonality are making big profits of Digium’s work and Digium is getting none of it. Sure Digium has AsteriskNOW, but face it, that’s a joke and there are far better interfaces out there.
