Polycom introduces new IP conference phones

While Polycom’s traditional conference phone lineup includes many different models sporting wireless, bluetooth and skype support; the IP based lineup consisted of one device. That’s about to change as Polycom recently introduced the SoundStation IP 6000 and IP 7000 models.

When it comes to VoIP telephony, cordless telephones are nowhere near as standardized as their analog counterparts. One of the reasons for this, is the standard used for wireless VoIP telephony, or the lack thereof. While it would obviously make sense to opt for WiFi as the cordless VoIP standard, the technology has its issues when it comes to real-time communication.

Lenovo and Avaya teaming up

Sipcat VoIP Blog - LenovoJust yesterday, I reported on Dell and Fonality teaming up to offer VoIP solutions to small businesses. Today, I ran across an article announcing a partnership between PC manufacturer Lenovo and Avaya. While this partnership is not half as interesting as the Dell/Fonality deal, it looks like a sign for things to come in 2008.

Sipcat VoIP Blog - DellWow, this is an impressive partnership announcement, Dell has picked Fonality as a partner to offer VoIP solutions to small businesses. It comes as a bit of surprise that Dell didn’t go for one of the traditional established vendors, but instead went for a company that offers Asterisk based solutions.

Google Phone is coming

Sipcat VoIP Blog - Google PhoneIt seems the much awaited Google phone is finally coming. Though there’s no official confirmation from Google yet, industry analysts already seem to know a thing or two about the gPhone. Google apparently contracted Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer High Tech Computing (HTC), widely known for its Windows based phones (previously sold under the Qtek brand).
