Polycom introduces VVX1500 video phone
Today, Polycom introduced the VVX1500 video phone or “media phone” as they prefer to call it. The phone provides a 7″ wide-screen touch display for voice, video and applications. Polycom remains true to the standards they have been using for the SoundPoint and SoundStation series, by providing SIP support and the same XML API as with their other phones as well as Polycom’s HD Voice technology.
Additionally the phone sports a Gigabit Ethernet built-in switch, USB 2.0 connection and integrated microbrowser. Polycom tries to contribute to a greener world by building in a motion detection sensor that allows the phone to go to standby if nobody is in the room. It also pulls in a maximum of 11W of power, in comparision my Linksys SPA-962 (with significant smaller display) pulls in a maximum of 15W.
The phone supports regular voice codecs as well as standard video codecs H.263, H.263+, and H.264. It should be available this month, with a list price of $1.099. Read the full press release here.
