First of all, happy birthday to us. This blog is now one year old. We hope to be able to continue to bring you the same exciting business VoIP news in the coming years. This post is a bit of a technical one, but it’s nevertheless quite important.

Over two years ago, Digium was contacted by the trademark holder of the Zaptel name asking Digium to use another name for their telephony based products with the Zaptel name. The new name, DAHDI which stands for Digium Asterisk Hardware Device Interface, isnt’ the prettiest one that’s for sure. But it has been trademarked by Digium to avoid such issues in the future.

Asterisk 1.6 will exclusively support DAHDI, while Asterisk 1.4 will continue to support Zaptel and provide transparent support for DAHDI as well.
