Skype worm in the wild

Sipcat VoIP Blog - SkypeBad news for Skype once more, as a new worm released recently targets Skype users on the Windows platform. The worm that disguises itself as a message from someone on your contact lists, will try to coax you into downloading a .jpg file which actually contains the worm. “The chat message, of which there are several versions, is cleverly written and may appear to be a legitimate chat message, which may fool some users into clicking on the link,” said Skype spokesman Villu Arak.

You can try and remove the worm from the system yourself, but it requires Windows Registry edition and is only recommended for techheads. Regular users should update their anti-virus software to have it take care of the worm. Although that also might prove troublesome because the worm tries to block access to anti-virus updates.

If you’re still using Skype as a communication tool in your business, this might be a good time to reconsider that decision.
