Nokia announcing new VoIP phone E51

Sipcat VoIP Blog - Nokia E51 VoIP PhoneWell, technically it hasn’t been announced yet, but Nokia is expected to soon announce the latest phone in their E-series business lineup. The Nokia E51 will most likely replace the Nokia E50 which is the entry-level model of the E-series and the only one that doesn’t have WiFi access integrated.

The Nokia E51 will have integrated WiFi which makes it an interesting replacement for the E60 as well. The addition of WiFi to the phone together with the Symbian S60 v3 operating system indicates that this phone will also be capable of doing VoIP calls using the SIP protocol, making it an excellent business companion.

While the Nokia fanboys are raving over a new icon on the application button of the phone, it seems no one is really paying attention to the introduction of High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) on the phone. This makes it the 2nd E-series phone (after the E90) to support the higher speed 3.5G technology. If the price remains similar to that of the E50, this phone will definitely be a catalyst for the adoption of mobile VoIP in business environments.
