News certainly seems slow today, especially if you decide not to cover echo the news about SunRocket going down, Amp’d Mobile going the same way and Ooma just starting out and most likely joining them a year from now. Fortunately CMP has taken some time to sit down with two of Cisco’s VoIP experts and ask them some questions, providing you at least one interesting read today.

They talk about increasing competition in the business VoiP space (Cisco is the no. 1 player and “only” has 25% of the market), Microsoft entering the arena (they try to get along), the trend for the next 12 months (moving to an application & presence centric model of communication) and it’s impact on Cisco’s partners and finally Cisco’s push in the small business market.

All things considered an interesting, if somewhat longish, article about Cisco’s view of the VoIP market and definitely a welcome and refreshing change from the current SunRocket, Amp’d, Ooma news that’s been regurgitated across the blogosphere for just a little too long now.
