Fixed/mobile convergence not happening?
According to an article in Computer World, fixed/mobile convergence is still years off. While the UMA technology is there, operators are not very keen to cut into their own profit margins, and apparently customers don’t really care either. Operators that already launched fixed/mobile offerings, such as Deutsche Telekom, are already scrapping their offers again.
The story is a little different in the business world, with Nokia and Cisco announcing a collaboration based on Nokia’s E-series phones. This allows seamless use of Nokia’s mobile phones at the office (using WiFi) and outdoors (using GSM or 3G). Nokia really has a killer range of phones with the E-series being used by business people around the globe and this definitely gives them an edge over their competitors.
We’re all big fans of the E-series here at Linugen and fortunately you don’t need Cisco’s latest VoIP system to use this kind of technology. You can easily connect your Nokia E-series to Sipcat as well, find out how.
