VoIP on the iPhone

I’ve been waiting impatiently to write something about Apple’s iPhone on this blog, but alas Apple chose not to include VoIP functionality on the device (among many other things; the phone is seriously lacking in the feature department) so the iPhone remained irrelevant to this blog.
To a certain extent it still does. Yes, the device is beautiful and it probably has the first ever operating sytem done right on a mobile phone. Don’t get me started about Symbian, Windows Mobile or Linux for that matter. But I digress.
Nearly two months ago we released our last update, and again its time for a new one. This update mainly includes software updates (or service updates as we like to call them) which means updates of the software we rely on for Sipcat. So, this update brings you the latest version of Asterisk and a number of new drivers. It also includes some fixes for smaller bugs that were introduced earlier, because of another project we’re working on. More information on that later, the update is available for download
Bad news for Skype once more, as a new worm released recently targets Skype users on the Windows platform. The worm that disguises itself as a message from someone on your contact lists, will try to coax you into downloading a .jpg file which actually contains the worm. “The chat message, of which there are several versions, is cleverly written and may appear to be a legitimate chat message, which may fool some users into clicking on the link,” said Skype spokesman Villu Arak.
Well, technically it hasn’t been announced yet, but Nokia is expected to soon announce the latest phone in their E-series business lineup. The Nokia E51 will most likely replace the Nokia E50 which is the entry-level model of the E-series and the only one that doesn’t have WiFi access integrated.
