So, VON Europe in Stockholm is over. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the chance to go, which is a shame because the atmosphere at Jeff’s events is always great. I’m sure, this year was no different. There are some rumors floating around in the blogosphere of people moving away from VoIP. And these “rumors” are coming from early adopters, such as Telepocalypse’s Martin Geddes. While Martin definitely raises some interesting points, what troubles me is the lack of clear separation between Internet based telephony services such as Skype and businesses IP telephony systems.
Sangoma is one of the bigger players when it comes to WAN and voice interface cards. They are pretty popular with open source telephony projects such as Asterisk. One of the issues in the (mainly) European market is that BRI ISDN (as opposed to PRI ISDN) is very popular and few manufacturers provide compatible cards for it. Therefore BRI users, traditionally went for European manufacturers such as Junghanns and Beronet.
